Product Description Cisco has created the Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert Program (CCIE)-a high level certificaiton program designed to certify the best of internetworking experts. More than 30,000 people tried to qualify as CCIEs in 1997 and this number is expected to double by 1998. The average person takes the test 3 times before passing. The Cisco CCIE Exam Guide is the book that will help the reader prepare for and pass the exam the first time.
Amazon.com Review An undeniably complex and difficult process, passing tests for the Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert (CCIE) certification requires unparalleled, in-depth knowledge. In The Cisco CCIE Study Guide, Roosevelt Giles provides you with help on the five test-subject areas (three are needed to pass, along with a lab test, which the book does not cover). By covering the broad strokes of networking and the dauntingly obscure details of many network protocols, Giles comprehensively explains Cisco technology. The chapters are organized around networking topics such as TCP/IP, data link switching, asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), and Novell NetWare. Each chapter concludes with a set of sample questions. You may find that you disagree with the answers to the questions given at the back of the book, but keep in mind that the tests reflect Cisco's viewpoint on all the technology. The included CD-ROM contains sample code for many examples in the book and additional sample questions. For anyone preparing for the written tests for the CCIE, this book is guaranteed to be a big help. --Robert Frankland

Errors? Who Doesn't. Content - Excellent 11 April, 2005 I read 14,000 pages in 9 months to get CCIE certified, this book included. ALL books have MULTIPLE errors in them, the only way you counter that is by reading MORE than ONE book on the subject. That said, I think you guys are mean or haven't read enough books. This tome is an AWESOME, in-depth look at the topics it covers, and when you read a lot of other books, they seriously fail to deliver the GRANULARITY that this book does which makes it a MUST HAVE. I only wish the author would continue to UPDATE and IMPROVE this book which would not only deliver it from it's obvious flaws, but would keep it in pace with the latest technologies. This book is old, but it without a doubt a true milestone on the landscape of CCIE literature.

Pass On This One 21 February, 2001 Undoubtedly one of the worst books I own. The technical content is often incorrect and self-contradrictory. The text is sprinkled with inappropriate, inane, and spurious comments like "Life is good". The writing style is muddled, repetitious and boring. If you seriously want the CCIE I would pass on this book and put the money towards the exam.

Useless 01 February, 2000 Way too many critical errors. Errors in the diagrams, even errors in the answers to the study questions. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. Use Doyle or Caslow and CCO to study for the exam.

Error Rich 19 July, 2000 This guide has more errors in it than ANY technical manual I have ever read. They appear both in the sample questions and the in-chapter examples. I would wait for the 2nd edition...

This Book Is Not A Ccie Prep Book 23 January, 2000 This book is fairly useless in trying to prepare for the CCIE written or the lab exam. The author is not a CCIE and it clearly shows. He just wrote a general networking book and tried to sell it off as a CCIE book trying to sell few copies. There are some good information in the book such as the chapter dealing with Netbios and stuff. However, this is not a CCIE prep book.
