Editorial Review / Publisher's Information:
Product Description The haunting follow up to the Edgar Award-winning debut In the Woods
Tana French astonished critics and readers alike with her mesmerizing debut novel, In the Woods. Now both French and Detective Cassie Maddox return to unravel a case even more sinister and enigmatic than the first. Six months after the events of In the Woods, an urgent telephone call beckons Cassie to a grisly crime scene. The victim looks exactly like Cassie and carries ID identifying herself as Alexandra Madison, an alias Cassie once used. Suddenly, Cassie must discover not only who killed this girl, but, more importantly, who is this girl? A disturbing tale of shifting identities, The Likeness firmly establishes Tana French as an important voice in suspense fiction.

Not Nearly As Good As In The Woods
28 February, 2010
i loved 'in the woods' and couldn't put it down. i was quite excited to get 'the likeness'; however i was very disappointed. the premise that cassie can convince the 'five' that she really is lexie was disturbing in its own way. the book became very draggy in the middle, long winded, and made me get annnoyed at cassie. how could she possibly pull off being lexie to those that knew her intimately? i love the prose and her lyrical descriptions, but this book lost me somewhere in the middle.

A Thrilling Follow-up Novel
08 March, 2010
This is Tana French's follow-up novel to In the Woods, so if you haven't yet read the first one, I'd highly recommend that you do that first.
The Likeness takes up Detective Rob Ryan and Detective Cassie Maddox's tale, but this time things are told from Cassie's point of view. We see little of Rob in this novel, but his influence on Cassie is so great that it is inevitable that he plays a role.
This time, though, it is Cassie battling her own past and demons as she goes deep undercover at a local Dublin University.
French's strong points (characterization and dialog) are even better in this book and the best part is that her weakness (plot) is greatly improved. It's hard to be disappointed in the ending of this novel, unlike In the Woods.
It's worthwhile, however, to read both books in the order in which they were published in order to appreciate this author's progress. She is supremely talented and it's a pleasure to watch her hone her craft over the course of these two novels.

Intense

I thought the book started a little slow but the intensity built to the point I could not stop reading! If you like
mysteries you will definitely like this book!

Much Too Long And Really Slow.
05 March, 2010
I really wanted to like this book. Everything about it was exciting to me, the setting, the plot and the characters were intriguing. However, after 250 some odd pages I have had it. I just don't care any longer. It has dragged on unmercifully, the characters are obnoxious, one dimensional bores, the events are vague and I was forcing myself to finish it.

I did not read this book myself, it was a gift but I was told that the book was very entertaining and readable. The delivery of the book was quick and the book was as advertised.
