Sensitive, Insightful, And Plain Old Fun! 26 January, 2008 Halfway through Ginger Pye, I knew I wanted to write a review of this classic children's story, because I really loved reading it! After my 10-year old daughter recommended it to me, I began the book and was immediately drawn in by the characters and setting (half way between Boston and NY, in the fictitious town of Cranbury). The writing is sensitive and just plain old fun to read. The main characters, Jerry,Rachel and Ginger, have emotional depth (dogs have some--don't laugh!) and this book made me yearn for "simpler times", when children were allowed to explore the outdoors, and use their imaginations to a greater extent, perhaps, than the children of today. Like most good children's literature, though, Ginger Pye is timeless.
