Product Description An amazing (and some would say magical) resource on photographic lighting that has been talked about in the community and recommended for years. This highly respected guide has been thoroughly updated and revised for content and design - it is now produced in full color! It introduces a logical theory of photographic lighting so if you are starting out in photography you will learn how to predict results before setting up lights. This is not primarily a how-to book with only set examples for you to copy. Rather, Light: Science and Magic provides you with a comprehensive theory of the nature and principles of light to allow you to use lighting to express your own creativity.
Numerous photographs and illustrations provide clear examples of the theories, while sidebars highlight special lighting questions. Expanded chapters on available light in portraiture, as well as new information on digital equipment and terminology make this a must have update!
*New four color art package with contemporary lighting examples *Based on the behaviour of light *Theory book for serious photographers

Good Basic Text 07 December, 2008 This book covers important basic principles and situations for photographic lighting. My only criticism is that I thought it could have been written a bit more clearly in places- there were parts I found confusing, even though I'm familiar with most of the material. Still, it's definitely worth the money and the time.

Should Have Bought This Sooner 26 November, 2008 All I can say is this is a must have reference tool for any aspiring or pro photographer.
I learned more in one reading of this book than I learned in 3 years of trial and error.
This is a book I will read over and keep as a reference guide.
I only wished I had bought this 3 years ago.

Essential For All People Thinking About Getting Serious. 10 December, 2008 This book is truly vital for any photography that really want to get serious about their craft. The chapter on metal and glass reveal the ease at which these formerly impossible subjects can really be photographed. The book covers so much of the actual physics principles that it enables you to understand light, hence making lighting so much easier. I recommend this book to all levels, even pros as it is a great refresher course and might give you new ideas or inspiration. An essential textbook, in my opinion.
