Product Description Crochet just got chic.
From the runways of Paris to the sidewalks of small towns, crochet has emerged as a cool and sophisticated fashion trend.
And nothing is cooler than doing it yourself–quickly and easily. Inspired by vintage patterns, Doris Chan presents twenty fresh, fantastic designs for beginner and advanced crocheters alike. Chan’s designs brilliantly translate old-fashioned lace patterns into fun, funky attire by substituting bright, chunky yarns for delicate fibers and increasing gauge and hook sizes. The result is a lovely, intricate lace pattern that only looks like it was difficult to produce. And because almost all the patterns are designed to be crocheted from the top down seamlessly, there is little to no finishing, piecing, or sewing required.
If you’ve never tried to crochet before, Amazing Crochet Lace is a wonderful introduction to the charm and beauty of lace. And if you’re a pro, you’ll be thrilled with the lovely, fresh designs you can create with the skills you already possess.

Great Book! 29 October, 2008 Until now I made the first pattern in the book, the green shaul and given the fact that this is the first item I made after 20 years when I learned to crochet at age 14, I had no problem following the pattern. The chart is extremely helpful and I found myself reading the chart instead of the row by row instructions.
I already bought yarn to make two more shauls.

Great For This Beginner! 29 July, 2008 I'm 26 and began crocheting this past January. I love it! I start the Sambuca Jacket on page 119 5 days ago and am almost done! It's my first piece of fitted clothing to crochet and my husband is amazed! I checked this book out from ath library and will be purchasing it shortly. There are quite a few patterns I want to have my way with!

Patterns Very Poorly Written, Very Difficult To Decipher...but... 19 September, 2008 I have to say that I loved this book when it first arrived flipping through the pictures. It has some really pretty wearable pieces. My first project I chose was "The Pumpkin Pie Jacket". I ordered the exact yarn they used which was not cheap but I wanted the exact same look. I would consider myself an advanced crocheter now after making many cardigans, afghans, hats, scarfs, and so on. I understand ALL stitch patterns now however,,,I found myself staring at the first page for over an hour trying to figure out how and where to start. You would think you are supposed to start as normal with a chain but this pattern says to start with a CH/SC -see Introduction but there is nothing in the introduction that explains this in fact, there is nothing titled "Introduction" at all! That is ONLY a very small issue of starting this peace. I finally thought I would just start a swatch of the pattern but after carefully starting the ROW 1 my "box" was not diagonal and looked nothing like the picture at all. At first glance,,it looks like a normal pattern but once you start....look out! I finally got frustrated and put it down,,,I will keep trying as I want to make this jacket. I do wish the author would have written this pattern the same as most jacket patterns are written. If anyone out there has this book and can explain in regular crochet terms how to do this pattern please respond to this review.. I'm so frustrated. Julie Sanchez

Fabulous Book! I Love The Designs. 16 December, 2008 This is the most jaw-dropping book on crochet that I own, and I own a shelf full of such books! The designs are just wonderful- the sort of beautiful things my grandmother used to make for the table- only made into fabulous wearable artwork in the form of shawls. These designs really do highlight the uniqueness and beauty of crochet, and make everyone who crochets proud of their art (a lot of recent books have tried to make crochet 'look more like' knitting).
The patterns are well written, and the pictures are beautiful. Doris Chan seems to be a very creative person to have revived a lot of these patterns and made them into something fresh and beautiful for today. Who wouldn't be proud to make one of these shawls or to wear one?
