Easy Read
01 March, 2010
It's easy reading and it's fast paced, which is not what I anticipated. Be sure to have your Bible handy because they frequently reference verses and do not include them in the text. I'm enjoying the book, and I think it's enhanced my understanding of the Bible.
Be aware that if you use this book as a text for a class, the old version is very different than this new version, so you will not pass the tests based on the book if you use the old version.

Not For The Common Layperson
13 December, 2009
I was assigned this book in a college course and I have to say that it is hard to follow. If its intention is to bridge the gap between the theologist and the layperson, then they need to continue working on the bridge because it definitely isn't finished. I consider myself of at least average intelligence, but this book left me questioning what exactly their point was in almost every chapter. I have learned a few things from reading this book, but it has mostly left me more confused than before I ever read it. I think this book is better suited for those that already have some understanding of biblical theology and the terms involved. It also seems they are trying to lead people into what their interpretation is instead of sticking to teaching you how to make your own interpretation. On the back cover it says "Several chapters rewritten for better readability.". Um...Fee & Stuart...rewrite the WHOLE book for readability because it still isn't working.

A Great Introduction
16 March, 2010
Fee and Stuart's "How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth" is an excellent introduction to the fine art of Bible reading and criticism*. Easy to read and understand, this title will benefit anyone who desires to approach the Bible from a fresh perspective (one rarely presented in churches or study groups).
* Note that criticism in this context implies the academic definition of examination, analysis, and evaluation.

Interesting Perspective On Translations
10 February, 2010
So far, this book gives a fantastic overview of various Bible translations, where they came from and how they differ. It is very readable and easy to get through. Highly recommended for a student asking the questions, "Where did this Bible come from and how does its history affect the way I read/learn/study it?"
