Such A Disappointment!! 29 June, 2009 I have always enjoyed the Alex Cross series. I looked forward to reading "Cross Country" while I was recovering from an injury. This book is one of the most disapointing that I have ever read. What happrened to the tough, analytical cop that I have come to expect? The guy in this book was a whiner who went through the entire book putting himself and his family into unbelievably stupid and dangerous situations. What happened to the intelligent Doctor Cross that could always delve into the twisted mind of a sociopath and take us along for the ride as he learned all of the inner workings of the monster behind the facade? The guy in this book was clueless until the last chapter. I found myself rushing to get to the end just so I could be finished with the book. Normally I like to savor a good book. I hope that the next book is better. What a let down!

Possibly The Worst Half Of Book I Ever Read. 25 June, 2009 I have read and enjoyed a few Patterson books in the past, notably Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider; so when I heard this installment of the Alex Cross series advertised on the radio I bought a copy with anxious anticipation.
My work and school schedule slowed down enough to finally allow me to settle in and enjoy a good book. Too bad what I got instead was the complete opposite. There a several reasons I didn't like this book. The main reason being it wasn't well written; the chapters were too short (page and a half to three pages long), the story was fractured (it didn't flow well). Also the storyline was unappealing, it didn't grab my attention and I got bored with it after reading a 100 pages. Tried to finish the book but finally gave up after about 225 pages.
I honestly feel as though I wasted my valuable time and money with this book. If you feel the burning desire to read this then my suggestion is to go to the library, do not waste your money on owning this.

Is This Really An Alex Cross Book??? 27 June, 2009 The title implies what I was thinking while reading this book because as one reviewer pointed out this book comes off as a political statement. I am usually the one stupid-loyal fan who will always come up to bat for a my favorite book series but I just can't defend this one....Basically it seems that Mr. Patterson wanted to write a book about the crimes that are occuring in Africa and decided to put Alex Cross in as an after thought. Hopefully the next book will see Alex Cross in his rightful place as the main character.

Skip This Alex Cross Story 03 July, 2009 Feel free to skip this Alex Cross adventure. The purpose seems to be to tell the horrible genicide occuring in parts of Africa. I was disappointed by the lack of detective work that I expect from the Alex Cross character. The story shares one graphic murder after another for the purposes of showing violence. I prefer the Alex Cross novels where the murder investigation leads to clues. In Cross Country, the murders lead to a random adventure.
This is a stand alone story. The potential was there for some real changes to the series, instead all things wrap up nicely. Frankly, I don't expect to miss anything if you just go to the next Alex Cross story in the series.
