A Charming Book Of Poems For Children 28 February, 2006 I initially picked up this book in a bookstore because of the beautiful illustrations. I have since bought several as presents for friends and family. It is an anthology of poems, so some of the poems are better than others, but on the whole the selection is very nice.
My son, who is now 2 and a half years old, knows 3 or 4 of these poems by heart and loves to hear his favorites when a related subject comes up during the day. For example, Robert Louis Stevenson's "The Swing" when we are at the park. This book is a lovely way to introduce appreciation for rhyming, rythmic language and general literary beauty.
Enjoy!

A Must-have For Any Parent's Library 24 September, 2007 I grew up with these poems; it's the first book I ever read by myself. The poems are truly beautiful and catchy. Sometimes I'll find myself mumbling the bathtime poems as I turn the shower on or the woolly blanket poem when curled up on the couch. I was ecstatic when I saw that they had re-released this book. My family's original copy was so well-read the pages were falling out. However, when we compared the books side to side we discovered that there were quite a few poems missing from the new edition! Fuzzy Wuzzy, New Shoes, and quite a few others were absent. I'm not sure whether they couldn't get the rights to them, or if they thought that the book would be too large because it's a hardboard, but it was truly a disappointment. I'm still glad for the copy and I look forward to sharing the poems with my future children, but I'll always have a nagging feeling, knowing that there's many wonderful poems omitted. Regardless, the book is beautifully illustrated and the poems are quite pleasing. A definite must-have for any parent or parent-to-be.
