Product Description ONE OF THE most-requested Little Golden Books is back in print—complete with Band-Aid® bandages! Millions of baby boomers remember little Dan, who stops crying over a scratch as soon as Mother puts a Band-Aid® on it. Soon the dolls and teddy bears in Dan’s house are wearing Band-Aids®, too. This charming story from the 1950s was so popular that it’s now featured in the Smithsonian’s permanent collection.

Like It, Aside From The Commercialism. 19 March, 2008 We love to read this cute story. I never read the back page, though. I try to stay away from the commercial. Fifties product placement at its best.

I Wouldn't Read This To My Kid... 03 November, 2007 ... at least not as it's written. In fact, we recently saw it on the shelf at a local independent bookstore and, as she's on a Golden Books kick, she made me read it. The general contour of the plot is fine -- after getting a boo-boo while playing with his friends, a boy named Dan really gets into helping others fix up their injuries -- his sister, their dog, their dad. It's cute, because kids do like to play with Band-Aids, and it's interesting to see a boy in a 1950s book taking on a nurturing role. BUT... there's also a horribly retro angle to this as well. Dan is first seen playing that he's a big, fearless, butch cowboy, but when he gets hurt, he goes crying to his mom (hah! hah!) and she scolds him for crying, before cleaning his cut and fixing him up. Then there's the way Dan's little sister is depicted, with her undies peeking out from her skirt, like the girl in the old Coppertone ads. It's a very old-fashioned kind of humor -- and, yes, it is sexist. I read the book when asked to, but I made sure we didn't bring it home. (ReadThatAgain)

It Must Have Impresed Me. 17 May, 2008 I am a 61 year old new Grandfather.I remember this book from when I was 5 years old.I haven't seen a copy for probably 50yr's,but I still remember the Band Aids.I think it's interesting that some reviewers see a very good book meant to introduce children to first aid and the idea of helping others, while others only see a little girls panties and advertising.I'm not sure why this book made such an impression on me,(it might have been my first book),but it still stands out after 55yr's.The 50's may seem odd to some folks but for the first 15 yr's of my life my parents never found it necessary to lock the front door unless we went out of town.Since I have seen all the Shirly Temple movies I didn't think the sight of a little girls panties was either shocking or disturbing, but I guess some folks see it as harmful. My parents read this book to me a lot until I learned how to read it for myself, and I don't think I was harmed in any way.As soon as I can find a copy my Grandson will have his first book in his library.
