Product Description
Caitlin is spending the summer on the windswept island that is her home. She is caught between girlhood and maturity, and feels utterly isolated from the rest of the world. Then she meets Lucas, who is the embodiment of freedom and honesty. She is instantly drawn to him. But Caitlin must also grapple with the darker forces that seem to be confronting her family. Lucas himself further complicates matters when he is hunted for an awful crime that Caitlin herself becomes involved in.

 • Hmmm

I think that this is one of the better books that I have read. From the beginning Lucas is this kind of mysterious boy who doesn't quite fit into place with the world around him. He is kind of roughing it out in the wilderness, traveling all the time and content with who he is. But Cait doesn't want him to keep wandering there is an unspoken bond tugging them together. Cait's father is a drunk and her brother is home from college and is not exactly the same bro that he used to be, he is falling in with the wrong crowd and pulling ait into it. Lucas will not have this and in the end kicks some serious butt.

 • Unbelievably Sad...
28 September, 2008

this is one of my favorite books. its a story about friendship and what it means to have someones back. the ending completely shocked me, i didnt expect it. i guess thats what made this book so good, it kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time. i love the way the narrator described everything,i felt like i was there. especially when she was saying how she felt in the end, i cried with her. this book is about a boy who comes into a new town, and everyone goes against him for no reason. his only friend, caty, helps protect, but she can only do so much. GREAT BOOK. i recommend this to anyone who wants a good book to read.

Lucas is one of those books that make you think. The extremely detailed book describes how easily lies can be spread and absorbed, with prejudging and discrimination taking place next. At certain points I could feel what the characters felt. Some times I was in love with Lucas and another time I cried. I even yelled back at the book, like the way you would yell or talk back during an intense scene of a movie. The actual story is about a girl named Caitlin and a guy Lucas. Caitlin lives on a small island; the everyone knows everyone type of place. She's different from the other kids her age and strays from the bad habits of her former best friend bill. Lucas is mysterious and an unknown guy to the island, who puts off a bad vibe to practically everyone besides Caitlin. The dislike for Lucas becomes drastic when he is framed and accused with a horrific crime he has not committed. I absolutely recommend this book for other teenagers; Lucas is an intriguing and outstanding book.

 • I Have Read This Book 5 Times...
25 April, 2008

I love this book. I read it in high school and this book is what incouraged me to read frequently again. I used to read alot when I was younger and then got distracted in high school and stopped. I picked Lucas to read for a book report, I read the synopsis and it intrigued me. I could not put it down. This was my favorite book until a few years ago, when I discovered Twilight, and I have since read it 5 or more times. Everytime I read it I cry still. It is a very relateable, moving and well written book. Kevin Brooks writes teenagers fairly well. This book deals with growing up, peer pressure, death, discrimination, hate, rape, and love. Caitlin is on a small island where a lot is going wrong in her life and then she meets Lucas. She feels drawn towards this outsider and often feels like one herself. I don't want to give away the story but don't expect a happy ending. This is why I cry. I literally screamed No at the book at one point. Kevin Brooks does have a slight british writing style which you will either love or hate. I love this book where as my best friend has similar taste to me and hates kevin brooks books.
