Editorial Review / Publisher's Information:
Product Description Convalescing from a bullet wound on Long Island, NYPD homicide detective John Corey helps the local sheriff investigate a shooting. The victims are a married couple, both biologists on Plum Island, a top secret animal disease research site. When the media suggests that they stole a deadly virus, suddenly a local murder becomes a crime with worldwide implications in this masterwork of entrancing characters, a killer plot, and brilliant comic touches.
Amazon.com Review Nelson DeMille's narrative engine is one of the best in the business, and it chugs away in grand style in this story of buried treasure and biological warfare on a tiny spit of land off Long Island. As told by a wry, wounded New York City detective who is drafted to explore a couple of murders, Plum Island is a rich pudding of flavorful (if familiar) ingredients, including a ferocious storm at sea. Other DeMille epics in paperback include By the Rivers of Babylon, The General's Daughter, The Gold Coast, Spencerville, and Word of Honor.

One Of His Better Ones
23 December, 2009
Like some other reviewers, of the DeMille novels I've read, this is the one I liked best. This is a book where you can truly say that the main character is as entertaining as the plot, and that's a bit rare. One rule DeMille sort of breaks is revealing the villain well before the final page, but, in this case, it seems to work. I did not feel like tossing the book aside as soon as I identified the antagonist. Not sure if I agree that the book should have been 100 pages briefer. An expert editor could definitely have cut here and there, but I didn't think it was 100 pages too long.
I don't necessarily recommend everything DeMille writes in glowing terms, but this was very good.

This Is A Cis Novel!
29 October, 2009
CIS? Why, it means "call in sick" of course. This novel is one of those that once you get into it, you can't get out of it. There are twists and turns, plots, subplots, and seemingly discontiguous pieces of the puzzle. John Corey puts it all together -- and if you're paying attention, you can too -- but you have to keep all the pieces in your head at the same time. The dramatic climax is a little melodramatic, but the rest of the book makes up for it. If you like this one, read all of DeMille's John Corey books.

Awesome In Every Way
30 November, 2009
Nelson DeMille weaves a clever, page turning tale here with the adventures of John Corey. The characters are engrossing and believable, the protagonist all too human but also tough, smart and funny. The story totally sucks you in and keeps you reading until the very end. I've read this book twice and it had me laughing and anxiously anticipating what would happen next both times. Thank you Mr. DeMille for a fantastic tale of murder and treasure hunting.

Slowest Book Ever!!!!
11 October, 2009
It seems this book has taken me soooo long to read - it just never picks up speed. It's one of those books that never seems to grab your attention. Too much description - too many wise cracks - too much information about pirates. IT DRAGS ON FOREVER...

Better Than Gold Coast
04 January, 2010
First book of DeMille with John Correy character I've read. I really liked Correy. A lot of plot twists, some contrived, but Correy was intriguing all the way. Some scenes could be shortened effectively, particularly at sea. Overall the plot unfolded nicely.
