Goood Book 05 June, 2009 I have just discovered this author. He is a little "wordy" but he is so witty and interesting that I don't mind. Long book but you will want to get back to it. Really liked it.

Very Subtle 23 June, 2009 This is a very subtle book. Told in the first person, DeMille's protagonist draws conclusions from what looks at first like very little evidence, but explanations later in the book always had me nodding my head and agreeing that it all makes perfect sense when you put it that way. In the hands of a less-skilled author, I would have found this very technique very annoying, but DeMille made it all work very well. I was very impressed.
Add to that overall good writing, including a narrator who tells his story in a very likable chatty voice (even if said narrator isn't himself always a likable character), a really interesting take on the Mafia, and a story that has some interesting twists and turns, and it all comes out to quite a good book.

The Gold Coast 28 June, 2009 Another excellent novel by Nelson Demille. This story brings you to the edge of your chair most of the time with gut wrenching drama, some spicy sex, and dramatic action. The organized crime families of New York bring a new aspect of life to the highly comfortable families of the Long Island "Gold Coast." If you enjoyed the TV series "Sopranos" like I did, then you will love this book. The narrating main character, John W. Sutter is an enjoyable character whose sarcastic humor and incite takes you through both fun and sorrow in this book as well as in its follow on, "The Gate House."
