 • Great Info!
02 February, 2008

I've been very impressed so far, especially with the insurance chapters. Great help in allowing me to explain to people how they can afford to be healthy! That was great to learn! I would recommend it to anyone wanting to take part in helping turn our country around, away from sickness care!

 • Very Disappointed!!
28 September, 2008

What A Disappointment! I picked up this book looking for the opportunities ahead in the wellness industry, and frankly didn't find any, except for what the author is selling- Wellness Insurance. He promotes it in every chapter and then refers the reader to his website. It gets old. Is it a MLM? It sure feels like a high pressure pitch. Just when you think you're about to get a good tip on a new business opportunity, it's his insurance again. I'm already sold on the wellness aspect of living and already am a client of alternative practitioners. So other than an economic lesson about how we got to this point, there's not much else except how other people have made it big in the beginning of this trend. He promotes the story of Silk soy milk, which I have since been told not to drink because of soy's dubious qualities, Boca Burger as well as other vegetarian food producers, and mostly other doctors that have since turned to the wellness side of the health care business, like Dr. Mercola and his website, which I value as a source for up to the date wellness information. Like another reviewer, I find Pilzer's knowledge to be dated in the area of holistic health. So where are the NEW opportunities? He seems to outline only the old ones, except his wellness insurance of course. This book might have been enlightening when it first came out in 2002, but I think it's old news now in 2008. Even then, I don't see a great deal of opportunities being proposed. The only "revised and expanded" areas of the book are him taking the opportunity to sell his own products to the reader. I give it 2 stars for explaining the history of where we are today. If you are looking for the future opportunities in the wellness industry- it's not here.

 • Ahead Of It's Time
29 October, 2008

Dr. Paul Zane Pilzer - I've been a big fan of his for many years. When this book (one of many) came out, I wanted it immediately. My wife and I are both "passionate" about our health, and especially about natural wellness products, alternative, holistic practitioners and safe supplementation ((-vs- the lethal drugs that are being over being over-prescribed within the medical establishment)), so we devoured this book. In our opinion, it's absolutely outstanding - and very timely. Not only is there a highly intelligent look at the realities of our health care ("sickness" care) industry, but Dr. Pilzer forecasts likely wellness trends (some scary stuff in that). OPPORTUNITY - He also calls this the "next TRILLION dollar industry". In fact, Pilzer says - "... If you are an entrepreneur or health professional, or considering becoming one, in wellness, there has never been a better time in history to own your own business (or practice)". Despite the current "global economic crisis", I personally believe he's DEAD ON. Our HEALTH is our single most 'precious ASSET'. Nothing is more important. As a Financial Advisor and Business Consultant (primarily to physicians, dentists, surgeons, chiropractors, veterinarians, osteopaths and naturopaths) - I'm used to talking about assets / net worth / wealth, etc Well, we can have all the assets - all the wealth - all the prosperity - all the financial success on the planet - but without our HEALTH - we will not be able to enjoy these rewards. A few of my own thoughts here - - - ---------------------------------------------------- The MYTH of Good Health - Alarmingly, our health is deteriorating - and amazingly, most of us are generally not 'aware' of it (and consequently, not overly concerned). WHY? - In this so-called enlightened age - with all of the advances in research and science and medicine and nutrition - are we 'still' in a health decline - and why are we so complacent? Well for starters, with the assault we humans undergo every single day, from every direction, as a result of - viruses / stress / drugs / bacteria / toxins / soil depletion / poor nutrition / air pollution / super-germs / a weakening ozone / our workloads / our lifestyles - and many other invaders - it's really no mystery at all why we're such an ailing population in North America today. On top of that, with government mismanagement of our resources, and fiscal cutbacks, our health ('sickness') care systems are in crisis - as Dr. Pilzer stresses. FEELING GOOD - But a far greater concern is - most of us are not even 'aware' of this decline in our wellness. One of the most dangerous perceptions that needs to be addressed is the common assumption that we are healthy - as long as we 'feel good'. This is a grave misconception - a dangerous illusion. Millions of people are faked out by the 'appearance' of good health. Health is NOT the absence of disease, pain or symptoms. Symptoms are often the last and final stage of a breakdown that has been in process for 'years or decades'. Our bodies were designed with numerous redundant (backup) systems. Our bodies have a remarkable ability to compensate for deficiencies and problems, for years. Our bodies will always "borrow from Peter to pay Paul," - that is until Peter is broke too. Then "bankruptcy" (of our health) may be unavoidable - because we already have 'bounced checks' all over the place. And this is especially true with the two "silent" killers - cancer and heart disease. Yet, our bodies are blessed with the God-given power to largely "heal themselves" - IF we take care of them - IF we exercise - IF we watch our diets and our lifestyle - IF we feed them the correct nutrition - on and on... ----------------------------------------------------- Back to OPPORTUNITY - Dr. Pilzer states - "while everyone reading this book might personally wish that traditional medicine would return to its Hippocratic roots and embrace wellness, the stubbornness and shortsightedness of many traditional medical providers has created an enormous business opportunity for wellness entrepreneurs and professionals - and for wellness products and services". His book, "The New Wellness Revolution...", explains how these products and services are 'legitimizing' the wellness industry, by applying medical testing techniques and pharmaceutical-grade manufacturing standards to them. At the end of each chapter, he has a section called 'Action Plan for Entrepreneurs and Wellness / Health Professionals'. This is meant for new entrepreneurs ,or for people currently employed, who are contemplating striking out on their own. it's excellent. His objective is to illustrate how great an opportunity there is in wellness, and to stimulate the reader's mind for how to apply her/his own background, education, and life experiences to becoming an entrepreneur within the wellness industry. In my own opinion, this is indeed a 5-STAR read! Sincerely, Peter Arnold, CLU, CFC / Founder Business Achievers Academy / Canada
