Entertaining And Full Of 'secrets Of The Pros' 08 March, 2008 "Photos that Inspire" is the sixth and (for now) final book in the series, and the third that I've reviewed. Unlike the others I've read, this volume is more of a desert-after-the-meal book. Instead of being organized as a tutorial on one facet of photography, such as composition or exposure, that takes the reader from begging to end; this book provides a couple hundred examples of good photos in many different genres. Each entry is one page in length and includes a high resolution image taken by a different photographer; an entry by the author about what the photo has to teach the reader; a comment paragraph by the artist discussing the thought process when the image was made; and technical data such as ISO, film speed, aperture, etc.
"Photos that Inspire" is one part coffee-table book and one part how-to. The author, Lynne Eodice, is the online editor for Double Exposure, the web-based newsletter for Photo Workshop. Before the Wiley series was introduced, the only way to access these photo classes was to enroll in a membership with Photo Workshop.
This book will entertain, but more importantly, it gives you the 'secrets of the trade' from the perspective of hundreds of photographers. I loved it! It is not, however an indexed reference or a course unto itself. Rating five of five.

Great Idea But Amateur Photos 02 March, 2008 I really do love the idea and looked forward to receiving the book. Alas, the pictures are not really great. I mean, they are all solid photos, but on most photos I keep thinking things like "if only he had moved a little bit more to the right", believing that I could do it "better" (what ever that means).
Even worse: The description of how and why the picture was taken is very short and mostly not even about the photo but about background information (like this is my dog, i love him and have been running around with him all afternoon).
Sure the technical details (f/4 at 1/100) are there, but I can see those in any good photo community. I want to know where the lights were placed, problems he had, mishappenings, etc.
A much better book is "Perfect Exposure" from Zuckerman. Just take a look at the cover, I certainly do not believe that I can do better photos than those...

Very Inspiring!!! 18 December, 2008 Another excellent book in the Photo Workshop series. The book serves as an excellent resource of information to learn more about taking great photos. I liked the fact that most of the photographers were like me; amateurs, students, and individuals all with a common goal of making great photos. The book presented a wide range of different types of photos such as landscape, people, travel, etc. Each photo was presented on a full page with comments from the author and the photographer; and, included the technical data used to achieve the photo. In most cases, the shoot was one of the opportunity presenting itself, or a "sidestep" of what the photographer set out to produce. It was inspiring to know that I too, with more training and experience, can shoot great photos. An added bonus was the listing of websites from many of the photographers where I could go to learn even more. A real keeper of information!

I'm Definitely Inspired 14 June, 2008 I loved the way this book was published. Photographers contributed their own work for the book and the author reviewed why they were effective photos. The quality of the pages, color and author's reviews are all excellent. I'm learning a lot about how to improve my photos. I highly recommend this book. It has something for every one. Buy it. You won't regret it. There are five other books in the Photo Workshop series.

Inspiring Photos To Learn From 02 January, 2009 This book is a compilation of images taken by a number of photographers, both professional an amateur, in 10 different categories. Each image is accompanied by comments by the author, comments by the photographer, and techical data about the image.
As you read through the book, you can get a sense of what the photographer saw, how it was interpreted, and then how the feeling was captured on the image. The goal of each photograph is to give us, the readers, as sense of how to "look" at what we see, perhaps differently, and how to transfer what our mind has interpreted to the camera.
This book is an extremely good reference for any photographer who wants to broaden their scope of obtaining somthing better than "snapshot" images. It gives you a feeling of inspiration to think that you, too, can see things in a different way. It also brings home that fact that the opportunities are sometimes serindipitous and unexpected...so carry that camera everywhere!
