Editorial Review / Publisher's Information:
Product Description What kind of first impression do you make? A first impression is the most important impression you’ll ever make—and you get only one chance to make it. Business deals can be made or broken, first dates become second dates or not, friendships are created or fail to form; everything hinges on that all-important initial encounter. And yet most of us don’t know how we’re really seen by others. Many of us don’t know how to make a good impression.
Wouldn’t you like others to see you as confident, interesting, attractive, and sincere? Ann Demarais, Ph.D., and Valerie White, Ph.D., consultants to many Fortune 100 companies as well as creators of First Impressions, Inc., a New York–based dating and consulting firm, offer you the keys to putting your best self forward in any new situation, whether you want to strike up a conversation at a party or are meeting a blind date or a new business client. You’ll learn to see yourself as others see you, and how to tweak your style to create the impression that reflects the real you. Breaking down a successful first impression into its seven fundamentals, the authors show you how to master these principles so that you can make the best first impression. They also show how to avoid common misunderstandings that leave others with a bad impression, how to reveal the four universal social gifts, and they outline practical steps you can take to enhance your personal charm.
Informative and filled with enlightening research studies, do-it-yourself checklist reviews, and dozens of helpful case histories, First Impressions is a fun, groundbreaking, and long-overdue guide to the most important moment of virtually any relationship: the first.

Required Reading!
02 July, 2009
As a behavior-change coach and outplacement consultant, I found this book chock full of information that my clients sometimes need to be aware of. Plenty of good advice and examples. Some people scoff at the notion that a first impression is so significant, but if they read this book, they will scoff no more!

Very Helpful
14 November, 2009
Ever walked away from a first encounter with a vaguely uneasy feeling, as if something went wrong but you don't know what? I have. And reading First Impressions gave me a good idea what may have gone wrong during those first meetings.
I meet new people all the time in my line of work, and I noticed a difference right away when I started applying some of the principles I learned in First Impressions. My first meetings went a little smoother, and I found myself using the principles for second and third meetings also, to get them off on the right foot. Gave me some extra polish - which was an unexpected bonus.
Worth a read for anyone wanting to make a good First Impression.

Why All The Rave?
10 December, 2009
This book was indeed insightful and at most parts revealed a better understanding of human psychology. I liked how the author organized the book into 7 fundamentals. That allowed for easy obsorbtion of the material. Not to mention, the boxes filled with studies scattered about the book were very interesting.
However, the reason this book was only "good", rather than excellent, was because there was too much filler. The book is only about under 100 pages long without all the access junk. What do I mean by filler and access junk? At the end of every section, the writer puts in a section of self-awareness questions for the reader. Also, at the end of each Chapter there are large check lists that pertain to the Chapter. These are really unneccessary. Anyone that has the smarts to pick up this book and read it has the mental capacity to self-analyze themselves for a better first impression.
All in all, it's a decent read if your having problems leaving a lasting impression on others. And it's not bad for what it's worth.

Chapters Cut Off In Kindle Edition, Otherwise Good
06 December, 2009
This is for the Kindle edition only. I've just started reading the Kindle book on my PC and am very new to Kindle. But twice now, two chapters are cut off in mid-sentence. Very bad for a purchased item!
The book seems to be good and specific. Discusses body language, conversation, and appearance generally. Will update this review once I've finished reading.

Very Interesting -- Not As Insightful As I'd Hoped

Very good review of the basics -- excellent for young adults/early career types
"what you don't know about how others see you" gave me the impression that it would be more insightful than it really was ---
book is EXCELLENT for base-knowledge
