Editorial Review / Publisher's Information:

Product Description
Robert Fagles’s translations of both the Iliad and Odyssey have sold hundreds of thousands of copies and become the standard translations of our era. Now, his stunning modern verse translation of Virgil’s Aeneid is poised to do the same. This beautifully produced edition of the Aeneid will be eagerly sought by readers desiring to complete their Fagles collection—and the attention it receives will stimulate even greater interest in his translations of the Iliad and the Odyssey. BACKCOVER: Praise for Robert Fagles’s translation of the Odyssey:
“Wonderfully readable . . . just the right blend of sophistication and roughness, it seems to me.”
—Ted Hughes

“A memorable achievement . . . Mr. Fagles has been remarkably successful in finding a style that is of our time and yet timeless.”
—Richard Jenkyns, The New York Times Book Review

“Remarkably seductive . . . In Fagles’s hands, this ‘perennial poem of adventure’ is again a work of entertainment, of majesty and epic beauty great enough to stun the senses.”
—The Philadelphia Inquirer

 • Enthralling Yet Accessible Translation Of A Masterpiece
11 August, 2008

This new translation provides an enthralling yet accessible translation of a timeless masterpiece. Fagles achieves a tour de force at keeping the rhythm and pace of the latin hexameter without too much fluff. It helps the reader focus on and engage in the story.

 • Review For Kindle Ed.
23 February, 2008

I am writing this review for The Kindle ed of this book. (The Fagels translation). It is not formatted for the kindle. The sample looks fine because it is the introduction. But when you buy and begin reading the actual book, it is a poem. And it is not formatted for the Kindle. About 25% of the lines begin about 1" in, which on a 4 inch screen matters. The lines are irregualar with long blank areas and then starting in the middle of the screen. On some pages it is just lines of numbers going down the page. I love this edition of The Aeneid, I have the hardback and was really looking forward to it on my Kindle. But it isn't readable. I highly recommend Fagel's translation if you are not experienced with The Aeneid. It is like traveling with a close friend, but you won't be able to do it on your Kindle. At least not yet.

It's a very handsome book. My wife can't wait to finish the Illiad and Odyessy to get to it.
