 • I Love These!
15 March, 2008

I've been getting the Llewellyn's almanac for years, though I've missed one or two, and I've always enjoyed reading the articles and being able to track what I need here. This year's has held some meaningful information that has - as usually happens - shown itself in the time that it is ready to be received and most needed. Always helpful.

 • The Magick Of The Elements And The Year!: A User's Guide
10 August, 2007

The Magick of the Four Elements Last year, Llewellyn changed the format of its almanac from seasonal sections to elemental sections. A change that stays with the 2008 edition. A format I find very appealing. The Llewellyn's Magical Almanac has always been a useful tool to learning about different cultures, ancient myths, modern spellwork, discovering the mysteries of ancient symbols, plants and rocks, and the day to day almanac section that gives you the info on Moon phases, Feast day, color and incense. Each elemental section begins with an article about the season it coincide with... Here is a breakdown of the 2008 edition: Earth Magick: Study the Ayurveda... based on the philosophy of the Vedas (the oldest layer of Sanskrit and an ancient Hindu text). Next. finding familiars for those who prefer dogs in their lives. Learn the mystery of Jade, it's color breakdown and uses both ancient and modern. There are also articles about the correlation of planets to plants, Yuletide meditation, Labyrinths, and more! Air Magick: The magick of divining with pendulums, the art of Technomagick brings together the technology of today with the traditions of magick,. Also, learn your name in the Runes, Fairy Godmothers... and a nice article about those swift active Dragonflies, their role in magick and their varying reputations depending upon which continent you visit! Fire Magick: Start your day right with the Magick Diet! Gain knowledge on the lore of Witch Bottles, Magickal Anger Management, Altar Settings in the Home, Using Sunstone in your spellwork, Magick by Mail, Hocus Pocus for Halloween, and busting those bullies! Also includes the Greek myth of Pandora's box and beyond! Water Magick: Learn of Hapi, one of the four sons of Horus. Hapi was the God of the Nile. More mythology? How about an article on Artemis...a Goddess' Goddess! Discover the appeal of caffeine and nicotine and their dangers. Articles also include those on Emergency magick, First Nation Flood Stories, Magickal DNA, Gods of Sleep, and Bright Blessings! This is my 14th volume of Llewellyn's little magick book! In China 14 is bad luck but in South America 14 is good luck.... Start your own library of these fantastic useful books in which you find wisdom and humor. Enjoy!

 • Not As Good As Before...
16 January, 2008

I've been buying these almanacs since 1998, and I love them. I've reviewed many of them, and gave them glowing reviews. The almanac section is still the same, and I love that it's easy to use. However, I feel that the standard in the articles has gone down. I didn't get much useful information, and I thought it seemed kinda thrown together. I will keep buying these for the almanac section alone, but I really hope that the quality of the rest of it will improve back to its former standards. I wouldn't even mind if they brought back the advertisements, if it meant the content would improve.
