Editorial Review / Publisher's Information:
Product Description Have you always wanted to play guitar? Who wouldn't? Think of Jimi Hendrix wailing away on his Stratocaster. . . Chuck Berry duck-walking across the stage to "Johnny B. Goode". . .B.B. King making his "Lucille" cry the blues. No doubt about it—guitars are cool. Guitar For Dummies 2nd Edition tells you everything a beginning or intermediate guitarist needs to know: from buying a guitar to tuning it, playing it, and caring for it, this book has it all—and you don't even need to know how to read music. Full of photo-illustrated exercises and songs you can play to practice the techniques discussed in each section, this step-by-step guide will take you through the basics and beyond before you can say "Eric Clapton." You'll learn how to: - Match yourself with the guitar and equipment that fits your needs and budget
- Select the right accessories: amps, picks, pedals, capos, cases, and other goodies
- Pick and strum to produce a clean, clear, buzz-free tone
- Know whether you're really in tune
- Play melodies without reading music
- Perform basic guitar maintenance and repairs
- Build strength and dexterity while playing
- Play in different styles, including rock, blues, folk, jazz, and classical
- Make your guitar talk with bends and slides!
Fully revised and updated, with an all new interactive CD that allows readers to listen, learn, tune, and play along, Guitar For Dummies 2nd Edition is the perfect introductory guide for any novice acoustic or electric guitar player. Note: CD-ROM/DVD and other supplementary materials are not included as part of eBook file.

Great Book! Easy To Read. Easy To Learn!
27 July, 2009
I bought this book not knowing hardly anything about guitars and simply had a hand-me-down guitar and wanted to learn how to play. This book is awesome is that it details everything you need to know. Has all the basics you need. It was very easy to understand and very easy to read. The cd that it comes with is great to play along with. Highly recommended for any beginner.

I liked the product and the service was good. The dvd was broken when it arrived. Looks like it could have been the fault of the mailman. If you have an extra disk, I would appreciate it. Considering the effort you went to in shipping to keep it from being broken, its not necessary.

Decent Place To Start, But Missing Some Key Aspects Of Learning Guitar For Beginners
06 March, 2010
Although this book does have some good information and illustrations for a beginning guitar player there are some key things that are missing in the book. I teach hundreds of guitar players online and I can tell you what makes the biggest difference in how students learn is not 'what' they are taught, nor is it even 'how' they are taught. The 2 MOST important aspects of learning guitar are:
1. That you learn in a 'geometric guitar learning approach', not a linear one as suggested by this and most other books for guitar.
2. That students have ways to truly monitor the journey they are on. Learning to play guitar is not about 'learning stuff' it's about how your 'journey' of mastering guitar takes place.
This book does not really address either of those critical points. Because of this, as a guitar teacher I don't recommend it as a way to learn to play guitar. That being said, this book is better than most (but not all) other guitar teaching books available.
