Good Book For Learning Conversational Sign Language 26 October, 2007 I've used a few different ASL books and each have their strengths. I find this one has really helped me in learning the conversational side of ASL rather than just the individual words. It has good examples of common sentence structures using ASL.

A Basic Course In Sign Language 12 November, 2007 This is the book that was required for my class. It could have better illustrations, however, with the instructor demonstrating, we have figured it out. Love the spiral binding!!

From An Instructor 12 November, 2007 I began teaching Americal SL in 1990 using this book. While I admit the cover is awfully dated, I still use the book today. The basics of ASL are just that, so they will not be outdated over the years. For more advanced ASL, you will definitely need a more recent book to include changes in the style, vocabulary and colloquialisms of the lanugage. I like this book because it is set up like an English text book, showing you groups of vocabulary and grammar/structure exercises in each lesson. This is definitely NOT a book to try to learn from on your own. It is meant to be used in a classroom setting. With the teacher's guidance, you can learn the basics of the language quite well. It is the best I've used.

Abc Sign 31 December, 2007 Good book, used it as part of an ASL class. I also like the "Signing Naturally" series since the book has a VHS video/DVD which you can watch.
