• Great Melodies, Great Violin Book! 09 February, 2005
This ABCs of Violin Book 2 is a great continuation of the ABCs of Violin Book 1! It has a wide range of styles of melodies as well as many warm-ups, 10 scales, a worksheet for learning to read the notes, a practice chart for calculating time practiced and finger diagrams for finger placement when you proceed to learn new notes.
What I like the most is the variety of melodies. There are Mozart, Haydn, Handel, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky pieces, but then there are fiddle tunes like "Turkey in the Straw" and folk songs by Stephen Foster like "Beautiful Dreamer" and more folk songs from countries all over the world like "Deck the Halls" which is a Welsh folk song. Another christmas carol is "Joy to the World." It has the songs "Amazing Grace" and the Japanese "Cherry Blossoms" and "Hanukah." There are 3 major "Study Pieces" at the end to help perfect my technique (my teacher said before going into Book 3). They're called "Gigue Study" and "Rock 'n Roll Study" and "Study No. 3" by Wohlfahrt, an old German pedagogue.
This book is very enjoyable, I feel my technique has come a long way and I had fun while doing it! I highly recommend it!!
