Product Description Scot Harvath's counterterrorism career has just crashed and burned -- thanks in part to a ruthless senator with her sights set on the White House. But when the war on terror takes a chilling turn, the president has no choice but to secretly bring Harvath back inside. Deep beneath an Alpine glacier, an ancient weapon designed to decimate the Roman Empire has been unearthed -- and a shadowy organization intends to use it for America's downfall. Racing across Europe, Harvath must secure the ultimate instrument of destruction before it brings the United States and the rest of the world to its knees.

Over The Top
21 November, 2009
This is the second Brad Thor book I've read and while I enjoy his main character this story is a little over the top. The amazing string of improbable situations pushes beyond thriller into more of a comic book feeling.

Historical Thriller
25 September, 2009
This work is a bit of a history lesson wrapped around intrigue and mystery. The characters are excellently matched for their roles. A mysterious beginning in Iraq keeps the reader's attention as the world's greatest government, the USA, investigates a strange illness. The reader is taken on a tour of the world looking for an answer and in each country finds a bit more of the answer to the mystery. The ending will totally surpise the reader. Well worth reading.

Once Again I Was Compelled To Do Some Research.
18 January, 2010
It seems that with every Brad Thor novel I pick up it plants seeds that need to be researched. Did Hannibal bring a potential bio weapon with him when he crossed the Alps?
I have to admit that when the effects of the weapon were first introduced and the symptoms were similar to the behavior of Vampires I gave out a groan, but thankfully it was only for a page or two then it got real. The technical side was on the money as usual for the Scot Harvath novels as was the action and the twists and turns along the way. All in all a really good way to spend my time reading and on the internet checking on venomous vipers and ancient bio weapons as well as Hannibal of Carthage.
