Book Description
You’ll find no die-cut teddy bears, cross-stitched friendship plaques, and ducks painted with bonnets in THE CRAFTSTER GUIDE. A hip collection of easy-to-make, fun-to-wear, and stylish-to-display crafts from the fifties and sixties, it features 50 projects culled from vintage craft publications, including more than 10 new retro-inspired projects. This unabashedly tacky craft compendium includes clear instructions, tools and techniques, and enough irony to fill a popsicle-stick purse.

 • There's A Reason These Crafts Got Lost
09 June, 2008

i really, really wanted to love this book. I've been a member of craftster since the begining and gotten some awesome ideas from there, and this book got so many positive reviews. But I don't buy craft books to say how fun the projects are. I buy them to *do* the projects. I can't really see some of them (the egg carton lantern???) in anyone's home. There are a few little cute projects (headband, snow globe, book purse) but you can learn how to make them anywhere.

 • Disappointing And Impractical...
04 February, 2008

I guess I'll be the voice of dissent here, since everybody else apparently LOVED this book and its projects. I thought there weren't enough easy, do-able projects and some (the percolator/urn lamp, popsicle-stick purse, etc) were just plain weird. And where's the irony Craftster is known for? PLEASE - don't get me wrong! I love kitsch, and I love Craftster! And there is so much fun and practical kitsch floating around on Craftster, I guess I just figured this would be a "best of"... to me, this just seemed like a collection of projects that are better off left in the past. What I'd love to see from Kramer would be a "best of Craftster" - that would be fabulous! In the meantime, pass on this book and go for one of the other fine collections of vintage-type crafts already out there.

 • Great Fun!
19 April, 2007

I love looking through this book and getting inspired--the writing is so fun and the design overall is just so kitschy-cool! All the projects I've made from it turned out great, and I've had so much fun going through it and choosing what to do next.
