Editorial Review / Publisher's Information:
Product Description Finally, a chicks guide to the game that is smart, knowledgeable, and thoroughly female. If I wasnt already a football fan, this book would turn me into one.Star Jones Reynolds,co-host of ABCs The ViewYear after year, Sunday afternoons and Monday nights during the NFL season have belonged to men. While they cheer and argue play calls, the women in their lives are relegated to beer and chip detail. Its time for these women to join the action, and Holly Robinson Peete, star of 21 Jump Street, For Your Love, and Hangin with Mr. Cooper, and wife of NFL quarterback Rodney Peete, has written this hip, smart, cheerful guide to help them do so.Peete shares her infectious enthusiasm for pro footballand takes the complexity out of the game by breaking it down to its component parts. She explains the role of each position player, provides a rundown of all on-field penalties and referees hand signals, and offers an illustrated guide to some of the most common plays in the NFL. She gives her take on the most memorable plays in NFL history and dishes some inside dirtin a breezy, girl-talkin narrative that promises to turn the novice spectator into a well-informed football fanatic.

Stick With Howie Long
27 February, 2009
This book is adequate for complete novices, its intended audience, IF you can overlook Holly's exceedingly annoying potty mouth throughout the book. A little less print wasted on her luxurious media room and gameday fanaticism, and more devoted to insider info would have increased the book's value. (She alludes to political maneuvering in the sport, but does not elucidate one whit.)
If you're looking for more information that's just as understandable to the novice, I recommend Howie Long's "Football for Dummies." Bonus: Long delivers exponentially more info in a completely professional way, without resorting to one profanity. He answers more of the beginner's questions without boring a more experienced fan.

Fun And Informative
25 January, 2010
I've always wanted to understand football. My husband loves it and I always give him a hard time when he wants to watch it, which is completely unfair of me since he allows me my TV time when I need it (American Idol, anyone?). I decided that I'd like to learn about football. You have to know and understand the basics if you want to truly enjoy any game, so I did some research and found this book. I really enjoyed it. Holly made learning about the game so easy. I must admit, I had to re-read the chapter about the actual plays, but it's very involved so I'm sure that's understandable. I wasn't completely thrilled with Holly's personality, which couldn't help but shine through on the pages. One example is when she was talking about a time when her husband was seriously injured on the field. All she could talk about was how she didn't have any makeup on in the hospital. Personality aside, Holly wrote a very good book aimed at people like me, who literally need to start from the very beginning. I can now watch a game and know what's going on.

Pretty Good So Far.
07 January, 2010
I am still in the process of reading this one, but the fact that I haven't stopped reading it yet is a testament to its worth. I am not a football fan, but my boyfriend is, so I got this book so that I can actually understand some of the stuff he's saying every Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Holly breaks it down and makes it interesting. So I would recommend this book to other women out there like me who aren't fans but at least want to be able to connect a little with those in their lives who are.

Even My Guy Liked It...
01 January, 2009
When I first started dating my boyfriend, I hated football. It was even worse when I would try to talk to him and he would suddenly get interested in the television because someone made an amazing football play. I got this book because I was tired of being a football widow and I wanted to learn the basics of the game.
I was not disappointed! The writing style was funny, girly, and informed. The author not only talked about the rules of the sport, but also history such as important games from the past. When I finished the book, I knew quite a bit about football and was able to (finally) understand things like why first downs are important or what exactly a center does. Some things I even got to explain to my boyfriend, and of course, that made my day.
I'm now a huge fan and never miss my team play. It is something that I can enjoy with him in exchange for the chick flicks he watches for me. :) Plus, I truly enjoy the sport now. I never thought I would say something like this, but go Steelers!

Great Book

I have been watching football for years but still didn't understand certain plays. Hollie explained them in very simple terms that anyone could understand. Also learned a lot of history about the game that I was never aware of. Thanks for a great book
