Product Description When Governor Mike Huckabee entered the Republican presidential race, he was the ultimate dark horse, with almost no money, no consultants, and no name recognition beyond Arkansas. The so-called experts were highly amused by this former small state governor from blue-collar roots who also played bass in a rock band. He wouldn’t have a prayer against the well-connected and financially wired pros like Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, and Fred Thompson.
But Huckabee had one big advantage: a common sense message that connected with millions of people, and not just his fellow evangelical Christians. He spoke about family values, fair taxes, and helping hard-working, middle-class Americans in a tough economy. And to the dismay of some Republicans, he talked about fighting Wall Street greed and K Street corruption.
Huckabee shocked the country by winning the all-important Iowa caucuses and seven other states, while spending far less than the other major candidates. He created an army of passionate volunteers and small donors, transforming his campaign into a true movement that will endure long after Election Day.
Do The Right Thing is Huckabee’s amazing story, in his own words—from making commercials with Chuck Norris to meeting a Michigan woman who insisted on donating her wedding ring. But this is more than just a campaign memoir. It’s a vision for a smarter, fairer type of politics—“vertical politics”—that focuses on common sense solutions for education, health care, the economy, and many other issues. It’s not about right versus left; it’s about taking America up rather than down. Huckabee also shows how the Republican Party can heal its divisions—between social and fiscal conservatives, the wealthy and the middle class, the religious and the secular—and become a true majority party again.

What An Amazing Book!! 16 May, 2009 I have followed Gov. Huckabee when I first heard of him during the republican debates. He always comes across as a genuine, every day kind of guy. His book details his campaign with sort of a "life on the road" aspect. He started with barely nothing and with hardly any support of any kind, to making it all the way as runner-up of the GOP nomination behind McCain.
Do The Right Thing touches on lots of subjects, and at the same time, it is funny, witty, serious, touching, and most important - written from the heart.
I bought this book a couple of months ago, and slowly took my time reading it, studying it, and deciphering it. Gov. Huckabee is right on track with his book and hit a home run!

Great Read 20 May, 2009 I read this book recently (sadly after the 2008 fiasco). Aside from the previously mentioned few grammatical/spelling errors, this book was a great read. I personally had trouble reading the first chapter and maintain my attention to the book, but once I got through it, I was glad I stuck with it. Huckabee did a great job ousting the neo-cons, faux-cons and the liberals w/ a Republican title. He's a true conservative with a strong moral base. I loved the book, and after reading this in conjunction with Black Belt Patriotism, I'm sad that Huckabee didn't get more attention in the news during the 2008 primaries.

So Inspiring! 05 May, 2009 This is the first time I have ever read a book authored by a politician, but I couldn't resist buying it. My husband and I were impressed by the way Governor Huckebee treated his T.V. show guests with utmost respect, even though some disagreed with his world view. This book is such an interesting read that provides great insight into the "behind the scenes" life of politics. Amazing to think if we all took care of each other, as God has instructed us to do, what a better world this would be! Get Over It Already 08 May, 2009 What an arrogant man. He lost the primaries, so now he's using this book to attack the people who didn't support him. He is also still attacking the people he ran against. Get over it already! This nation suffered a debilitating blow with our newly-elected POTUS, thanks in part to this man! He should have "done the right thing", and got out of the primaries when he realized that he didn't stand a chance at winning. That way a real conservative could have beat out McCain, and would have had a better chance at winning the presidency against obama (especially with the economy being the number 1 worry with voters).
Huckabee is nothing more than a has-been, and this book proves it.
