Many legitimate home-based jobs and projects can be found online, but trustworthy guidance is scarce. Worse, with a 56-to-1 scam ratio in work-at-home ads, the terrain is a minefield of fraud.

Nevertheless, customer service agents, researchers, test scorers, tutors, writers, and concierges are just a few of the many people regularly hired to work from home.

A growing number of Fortune 500 companies, including UnitedHealth Group, American Express, and Northrop Grumman, also hire home-based personnel.

In Work at Home Now, you'll learn:
* The top insider tips on good and bad Google search terms.
* How to find the "needles in the haystack" on Craigslist, Indeed, Monster, CareerBuilder, and other big sites.
* Where the real jobs for mystery shoppers, transcriptionists, and similar part-time specialties can be found.
* Scam-spotting tips that even law enforcement doesn't know.

Including interviews with hiring managers and successful home-based workers, Work at Home Now is the ultimate guide to finding the work-at-home job or project you want most.

 • Really A Great Jumping Off Point!
08 February, 2010

I didn't expect the information/resources in the book to be so helpful, so it was a nice surprise to see how much good information there is. I bought this book with the intent of hoping to find something temporary to carry me through the current economic crisis. I just needed something part time. The first impressive item in the book is a self-assessment to determine if working independently at home is really the right choice for the reader. I have a lot of friends who talk about working from home, but know that there would be too many distractions. I learned, though, that working from home is right for me. The information on how to look for jobs using Google were helpful too. I'm an internet athlete - I use Google 40-50 times a day. However, the tips on how to really fine tune your search was new to me and proved to be helpful. The job options listed in the book were helpful too. I have a small library on resume design & power words, and have been making resumes for friends for several years. In the upcoming week, I hope to make contact with one of the resume writing resources in the book to see if I can secure a position with them. But in the meantime, I have landed a position as a secret shopper. I was a secret shopper in the past, and while the work is easy, it's kind of hand to find reputable companies to do it for. Even if I only have time to do one shop a week, that will pay my cell phone bill for the month for a total of 2 hours work. I highly recommend this book!

 • How I Spell R-e-l-i-e-f
10 February, 2010

More than ever, folks grasp for any life raft floating in economically choppy waters, making fodder for scam artists of all kinds. This book is not only a legitimate life ring, it also helps us ward off those eager opportunists. Seldom have I read a how-to book that contains worthwhile information from beginning to end. A kind of toolkit, the book is logically organized, clearly written in non-technical terms. Although there are no guarantees of employment, everything readers need to have a decent chance at finding meaningful work-at-home is at their fingertips. Disability ended my rat race career, but my mouth and brain work just fine. I've spent a lot of time looking for telecommuting positions, easily finding scams, but few legit opportunities. Although, through reading Durst and Haaren's ratracerebellion newsletter, I trusted the authors' credentials, I doubted the book would present anything more than warmed over, rehashed advice. I was truly flabbergasted by just how many possibilites there are for someone with a lifetime of skills and a long work history. I can look foward to being useful again. For that, this book is priceless.

 • Great Resource For Those Currently Working At Home Too!
21 February, 2010

This book doesn't give you the usual work at home advise. They provide you with real honest tools to find a work at home, as a full time employee, freelancer, independent contractor or just some extra money. My favorite chapters are Jobs by Type and Where to Find Them, Networking for Jobs, Allies and Friends, and Your Telework Resume and Interview. I found myself making notes in the margins, highlighting important points and earmarking pages of interest. I highly recommend this book for someone who is considering work at home as well as those of us who are already doing so.

 • Worth Every Penny!
07 March, 2010

This book is a magnificent resource for anyone wanting to work at home. It is specifically written for people who know nothing about the work at home world, and for me personally, it explores things I would not have considered, such as how to cope with being isolated at home, or how to increase productivity. The book also has quotes, hints, and tips from people who are already successful. There are so many legitimate, HELPFUL websites included in all the chapters, and an appendix which lines them all up for you when you are finished reading. If you only buy one work at home book, let it be this one.

 • The Most Valuable, Legitimate Resource For Telecommuting Opportunities
01 February, 2010

In my search for work at home positions I came across the authors' website: [...]. I was impressed with the abundance of information listed on their site, especially the screened job leads making it easier for me in my search. Once I saw they had written a comprehensive guide for those of us that want to work at home, I purchased the book. I'm glad I did. Christine Durst and Michael Haaren have done the legwork researching legitimate companies and providing us with sound advice and guidelines in a down-to-earth, realistic manner. This book is definitely a must read for anyone considering a home based job.
