Product Description
This guide to Transylvania, the first one in English specifically on this subject, is a classical travel book full of reliable and up-to-date information that has been independently researched in Transylvania. It successfully combines practical information regarding every aspect of travel in the region with unusually comprehensive and substantial descriptions of sights as well as their historical and cultural background.

 • A Wonderful Resource To A Fascinating Part Of The World!
06 January, 2008

As one who has been to Transylvania 3 times I found this a wonderful resource - and, the only one I have found so far that is devoted solely to Transylvania. It includes wonderful background information on the area's complex history and culture. There are useful suggestions for planning trips of different lengths and interests. Points of interest are highlighted on 48 detailed area and city maps. There are lots of addresses, phone numbers, web sites and email addresses which are useful for gathering additional information and making reservations. A wide range of accommodations and eateries includes everything from the upscale to small hostels, B&Bs, private homes and camp sites. Colorful photos provide true-to-life windows on this fascinating world. Uniquely valuable is the language section with words and phrases in English, Romanian, Hungarian and German, the languages you will need to communicate with the natives in different localities. An essential pronunciation guide to Romanian and Hungarian is included. I would like to see a section on books for further reading such as the one included in "The Rough Guide to Romania". Of all the guidebooks to the Romania, this is the one I'll make sure to carry on my future visits to Transylvania!! Happy Travels!

 • A Wonderful Guide
11 May, 2008

This is the best tourist guide I've seen so far. It has very detailed information about sights, accommodation, including addresses, prices, and oftenly other useful information or comments. But you definitely have to buy a map separately (the one issued by Cartographia is very good), as the maps in book are very basic. Another thing is that the author is using Hungarian placenames (usually Romanian placenames are named after Hungarian as well, but not in every case), of course, it has historic reasons, but it makes reading harder, if you are familiar with official, Romanian placenames only, as well as you need Romanian placenames to locate some place on map. and you could have problems if communicationg with local Romanians using Hungarian placenames. I have not visited Transylvania yet, so I can't say how it works there, but in any other aspects the guide looks just perfect.
