Thanks to our loyal visitors - and a healthy entrepreneurial spirit - while many other Internet companies have come and gone, Bublos has continued to go from strength to strength, and is now more popular than ever before.

Established on a shoestring budget - but easily compensated for by lots of enthusiasm - Bublos was born in 1999, and has since proven to be one of the most popular web-sites on the Internet for making book price comparisons.

A privately owned company, Bublos has, year-on-year, continued to enjoy strong growth in the number of visitors it serves, and looks forward to continuing to provide the best possible service to our visitors while, at the same time, looking to provide visitors with innovative new tools and ideas.

Bublos originally provided just a simple book-price comparison tool, for comparing the prices of new books from several well-known bookstores, and it was the popularity of this tool which made Bublos become so well-known. However, as we continued to grow, more and more features became available, including the "My Books" section (previously known as "Memo Pad"), where visitors can save their book selections for future visits, the magazine section, and also a growing archive of newspaper book reviews, amongst other interesting tools and information. However, we've no intention of stopping there, and exciting new developments are always on the go at any given time.

Bublos has also been, and continues to be, a keen contributor to various fields within the arts.

Bublos - The Name:
Closely related to the word "biblio", which derives from the Greek words "biblion" (meaning "small book") and "biblos", the word "Bublos" is actually a Phoenician city from which papyrus was once imported - transliterated from the Greek "biblos", but now better known as Byblos. In turn, it is also interesting to note that these words form the origin of the modern-day word, "bible."

Papyrus, as most will already know, was essentially the equivalent of paper for many ancient Mediterranean civilisations - from which some of the first books would certainly have been formed. This inspiring heritage convinced us of Bublos as being a perfect choice of names, and so it was that Bublos.com was conceived - we feel sure the ancient Greeks would have approved.

Bublos (or Byblos) sits along the Mediterranean coast and, according to Phoenician tradition, was founded by the god El. Inhabited since Neolithic times, Byblos is considered to be one of the oldest, continuously inhabited cities in the world.
